H. H. Stabler, Cut growth on asparagus bed now and burn it
and enrich the bed heavily. A little later mulch, all plants

Committee of Allan Farguhar, F. L. Thomas and Sam
Bond reported no meeting and were carried over to report at
next meeting, Garland Ligon being added to committee.

Forethought Committee for next time were F. L.
Thomas and Bessie Stabler.

Mordecai Fussell then read a well prepared paper
on the "Advantages and Comforts of a poor Memory", which was
most entertaining.

Announcement was made that our firemen will have a
carnival and chicken supper on Sept. 13. Joe Janney offered
to tell the members who have fat chickens if they will call at
the mill.

A letter from R. H. Lansdale proffered the resignation
of his wife and himself but a unanimous desire was expressed
that we retain them, and the secretary was instructed
to tell him of our wish.

QUESTIONS: A. G. Thomas spoke of the odious signs seen on
road sides as he came home from Bedford and around Gaithersburg,
the repeated and terrific hotel signs. Asked us to
attend the flower show given by the Federal American Bank
at 14th and G streets, Washington. Flower seed are given
in spring to any asking for them and wish blooms brought for
this exhibition in return.

Helen Hallowell told us the Book Club will have
new books in October and will members send in list of books
desired. A rummage sale to be held at the Odd Fellows Hall,
Sharpstreet, next month.

Madge Winslow invited us all to come to the B. &
O. Centenary to open September 24, where exhibits and all
admissions would be free.

Elgar Hallowell urged us all to come to Chicago
to see Tunney and Dempsey perform, where we would have to
pay for everything.

Maurice Stabler had been to hear the colored preacher
and thought what he said more excellent than he had often
heard from white men.
