Luxembourg 1918 Nov 30th Dearest Edith, I have been trying to write a letter to thee for some time so I must ask thee to excuse the lack of seeming to be anxious to write thee. After marching 75 miles in seven days we have now spent seven days at the home of a pleasant Dutch peasent and their motto seems to be cleanliness is next to Godliness. They were a little hostle when we came but now we have impressed them with our manners for we have open house

when we hit here we asked them for some apples - no nothing doing Nine Nine, a couple of days later a large plate of them were on the table. I presume thee hes read letters that I have written to Mother - well I am now on a status with other people having gotten rid of "cooties". Either they were going to live and me die or vise versa and so with great difficulty the later triumphed On our 75 mile walk we had lots of time to veiw the country - and it really was beautiful. One valley that we hiked all day in was full of factories

Much rumor around here about how long before we come home some have it that it will be a long time others say that very soon we may come I hope that I will get there in time to play ball - ha ha - Mother dear I am just fooling There isn't much that I can say the men are all laying off today.
