soldiers were sent today back to the hospital.
It is said that we have nearly 100,000 men across
the river. Heard also that my dear wife & children
were yet in St. Augustine, through Miss Williams.
Wednesday Aug. 27. This morning went out in the
country scouting. Did not see anything
& with difficulty found a few peaches. Went
back to camp & about 11 oclock our relieve came
before we got back we learnt that a change
had been made. Our Reg. has been put into
Gen. Adams' Brigade. I hear that the two other
Col.s the 1st Fla. & 95 Miss. refused to serve
with Col. Dilsworth as Brig. Gen. & so he was
burst. When come to camp I learnt with deep
regret & sorrow the death of John M. Sephens
Stephens, my messmate & particular friend
he leaves a wife & 4 children & the fifth is
expected. He owns a farm between
