concluded to take none. About 4 oclock we had
roll call & after ever so many delays we got of about
daybreak. We marched about ½ mile the same way we
came & were halted again to let the wagons pass all
the troops are gone now I believe, & we are the rear
guard. We belong to the 2d Division & 2d Brigade. We
staid all day until nearly sundown & were
just sitting on the ground to eat supper when
the order came to be off imiediatly so we had
to swallow what we could & this is written
while I am sitting near the stacked guns
waiting for the signal to march. We have
a heavy load to carry at least 4 days provisions
& all the other things. About 6 oclock we left.

Saturday Aug. 30. About 2 oclock p.m. we
have had a dreadful fatiguing march since
last night. It was at least two miles on top
a [very?] mountain & there rested & we thought that
