I, the undersigned, Consul of the United States of America for Jerusalem, and the dependencies thereof, hereby request all whom it may concern to permit safely and freely to pass John Steinbeck, a citizen of the United States of America, and in case of need to give him all lawful aid and protection.

Given under my hand, and the deal of the Consulate at Jerusalem, this Twenty seventh day of May, 1858, and in the eighty second year of the independence of the United States.
