How would you like to live in a country where they stand umbrellas upside down; where teamsters lead their horses instead of drive them; where each man sprinkles the street in front of his own door, just as we sweep the snow from our walks in winter; where people beckon others to come to them just as we wave "good bye" to our friends; where they turn the pages of a book from below instead of from the top and read from the back to the front and vertically instead of horizonitally; where men lift their hats to each other but never to women; where the husband walks on the street in front of his wife instead of beside her; where he enters a street car first and she follows with the children and the bundles; where women wear unbrellas instead of hats; where bells are rung by pulling the tapper with a rope instead of turning the bell itself; where the stores have little boys to fan you on a hot summer day; where it is not polite to wear an overcoat in the presence of the emperor or look down on him from a second storey window when he passes, nor to fan yourself

in a class room nor to ask your departing guest to drop a letter for you in the mailbox; where your old friend will say: "It has been a long time since I have hung on your honorable eyelids (since I have met you) and when you leave will say "Walk slowly" instead of, "Don't hurry"; where the streets are so narrow that a man must run in front of your carriage and clear the road by shouting "Hi". Build roof of house first. Shake hands with themselves and not with others. Give presents to family as a whole instead of to each individual: Mount on right side instead of left side of a house.
