The Labourers plow very ill hereabouts - but one
man for 10 or 12 oxen, [which] they use sometimes in
one Plough - he sings, or plays on [the] flute, [&] never
quits his Post, [which] a new Furrow is made, so [that]
much Ground is lost - Much Linseed [about] Casiro,
[which] makes [pl.] of [the] large Demesbes of [the] Abbot -
You go from [the] Abbey of S. Germano, a small Village
at [the] foot of Casiro, to M Casiro - you rehear to
S. Germano, [& the] common Way is to go to Capua
across savage Deserts, whereas [the] best Way is to
go on [the] left hand, [&] keep [the] Mountains on [your] left
hand, [&] you pass thro' [the] fine [country] washed by [the]
Vulfurtus - famous for [the] Falertian [&] Massic Wines,
[& what] Tully calls "[LATIN?]" -
[The] best Way at Capua is to lie on Straw - a small
Journey from thence to Naples across [the] fine [country]
[which] Pliny calls "campi Leboniri" now by Corrup-
tion is called "Terra di Lavoro" No wonder, much
in [the] Dom is lost. Cicero says in his Oration for
Roscius "Magna Gracia nure non est"
