My dear motherly friend!

I received your sweet
letter yesterday - and was
just thinking how long you
intended to let me thus live
in uncertainty about your
dear self!- I knew however
more about you then you
might believe, as I had the
very great pleasure of
meeting Mrs. Hail at our
friend Lord Cavendish
a few days ago and after
got all the most important
news I was so longing
for. Mrs. Hail is more
like you then I thought -

high in rent.
Do not choose a stormy
day for your coming
across the channel -
please - this weather
is often so rough.
I have not heard a word
about Mrs. Grote - but
as soon as I arrive in
London I shall go to her
house. if there was any
thing I could do you for
you in London - please
to command my poor
services in any way you
like, as I shall be in
Rockhampton from tomorrow.

I long to see you again
your face is so necessary to
my happiness! Thank God it
is so. nothing is better than a
pure, deep affection! my love
to dear, kind Miss Stanley
