Dear Family,
I'm now in Barcelona and have been for 2 nights. After Nice we drove along the riviera - staying during lunches on a beach or in picturesque type places. Every lunch is bought from a grocery store - cheese and fruit. Lunches have been high points of the trip. However lately, since Spain I have gone off diet. I will go back on. We stayed in Toulon last Tues. night. Very cheap and nice, surprisingly, French people. Wed. we went to Marseilles (big kind of crummy city) and walked to a church for a good view. That night we stayed in Aix de Provence. Still cheap. We planned everything to be here by 12:00 Saturday to meet friends. Thursday we drove all the way (took almost all day) along the coast to Hanas - a very small quiet city close to border in Spain. My spanish is slowly coming back and is getting us by pretty well. I really like Spain. Jose our cousin sure looks spanish. I like the looks of Spaniards. The people here are very nice - nicer than in France. Oh in France on the way to Hanas we stopped for lunch on a beach & I talked to the old French fisherman who was fishing. I spoke French pretty well and we almost had a real conversation.

He was very nice - was fun. Here in Barcelona we have bet the friends. There is a group here of like 15 - too many to do anything. I don't care about seeing them especially, but Bruce's girl-friend (? possible) is among them. He's going around with them - fine with the rest of us. Bob and Amy are down on him also. Another late development is I can drink wine w/meals now. Wait 'till gourmet club & I will show my now complete appreciation of world of classes eating. We are staying in Barcelona for 87cents a night - very dumpy, but OK. Food also cheap here. Having fun generally.
