Dear Aunt Betty,

I am now somewhere north of Madrid in a Hostal. I've been in Spain for about 2 weeks. 3 others & I drove down the east coast staying in Barcelona for a few days and a day at several beaches. There are some beautiful beaches with no-one around. But I sure can see how you would never come to Europe in the summer. Prices go up, the weather is too hot, and there must be so many tourists. At the hotels we've stayed at, we are practically the only ones there & the owner say its full every day of the summer. We went to the Alhambra in Granada and there were American tours coming through one after the other - it was crummy now. All the touristy sights are pretty crowded. We went from Granada to Sevilla which was really nice - the paella was tremendous! They cooked it in a shallow pan which made everything kind of crusty - really good. I've had it twice now. The city's also nice. Today we've been to Toledo. Jeez what a mad place - super crowded (not many tourists) and really touristy. Neat looking city though (you've probably seen it) on top of a hill or cliffs with a wall going all the way around it. Driving from Malaga to Granada covered some of the most beautiful county I've ever seen. Really green. The weather has been perfect all the time except one day of rain otherwise cloudless & hot.
