LochwitzkyCount Alexander Mikhailovitch Lochwitzky (1871-1953?) was a Russian who married into European nobility. He was accused of harboring anarchists and terrorists and imprisoned on Sakhalin Island off Siberia by the Tsarist government. He escaped and made his way to the U.S. and became a popular lecturer but was denounced by other Russians. David Starr Jordan praised Lochwitzky for his vivid portrayals of the viciousness of Russian officialdom but stopped short of providing an unqualified endorsement of Lochwitzky when asked to.
