S. V. Leech

Rev. Dr. Samuel Vanderlip Leech (1837-1916) was an abolitionist minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church in West Virginia who wrote and published a book, "The Raid of John Brown at Harpers Ferry as I Saw It" based on his witnessing the famous Civil War raid. He was a popular lecturer and several other books and some of his sermons have also been published. Leech was a pastor at a number of churches including the Howard Street Church in San Francisco; Centenary Methodist Church in Terre Haute, IN; North Street M.E. Church in Wheeling, WV; First Methodist Episcopal Church in Pueblo, CO; as well as serving a term as Chaplain of the New York State Legislature.
