P. Manogue

Patrick Manogue (1831-1895) was an Irish immigrant who was lured by gold in California, prospected for four years and earned enough to pay his tuition at St. Sulpice Seminary in Paris. In 1861 he was ordained a priest and started to minister to the mining communities in the Nevada Territory. In 1880 he began assuming bishop roles that led to being named diocesan bishop of Grass Valley in 1884. In 1886 Manogue was named bishop of the Diocese of Sacramento, a position he held until his death in 1895.
