Nellie Grant

Ellen Wrenshall "Nellie" (Grant) (Sartoris) Jones (1855-1922) was the third child and only daughter of U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1885) and Julia Dent Grant (1826-1902). She was married in the White House to an Englishman, Algernon Sartoris (1851-1893), in 1874 and lived in England, raising four children, until 1889 when she was granted a divorce. She returned to the U.S., and in 1912 Nellie married Franklin Hatch Jones (1854-1931), a Chicago lawyer. She suffered a stroke and was paralyzed for the last seven years of her life.
