Senator Bard

Thomas Robert Bard (1841-1915) was first to produce oil from a drilled well in California in 1867 and was one of the founders of UNOCAL. He developed several communities in Ventura county. In 1900 he began to serve in the U.S. Senate, filling a vacancy created in 1899, and serving until 1905. He was known as a trade protectionist.
