J R McLean

John Roll McLean (1848-1916) was born in Ohio and joined his father in owning and publishing the Cincinnati Enquirer. They later acquired the Washington Post and John set up a second family residence in Washington, D. C. He ran for Senate and Governor from Ohio but lost both times. In 1890 he and his family began spending summers in Bar Harbor, Maine. His son, Edward Beale "Ned" McLean (1889-1941), was known for buying the "Hope Diamond" as a gift for his wife.
