only Son who could have had all that affection could give to make life happy. I felt like sorrowing with you, and would have been gratified if you could have been in my room and seen the portrait of my idolized sister. I am nearly eighty three and shall soon join those that have gone before and feel as if our meeting will be joyful so much to tell of dear ones left for a time to be at the Garden of life. Your husband has not lived in vain and the life of your dear boy will bless so many refining & cultivating them

an indefinite good extending over the whole world is given by your beloved son whose desire was to assist boys who were poor carried out by the magnificent University, established by you & your generous husband. This must always remind you of those noble qualities and the world should be grateful to them & to you. Senator Stanford was asked once what he could do for us. I was shy or could have told him and you what more have interested you both felt a delicacy - which now I think was false. I had no idea of his ability to carry out any thing he wished. I am glad to think as pure and good a man has lived among us and left in our hearts grateful feelings which will be yours as long as the heart continues to beat. May I call my self your friend of 82 years
