My dear Mrs Stanford

My deep sorrow for you
in this hour of your Gethsemane
impels me to send you a few words
of loving sympathy, not in the hope
of comforting you, for God alone can
comfort the heart so sorely wounded,
but that you may know you have
friends whose hearts bleed with yours
in the separation you are called
upon to bear for a time, from your
loved, and loving Companion.

Do not my dear friend look upon
this as death, but as a sweet sleep
which only separates the physical
man, in soul you are still one
forever. Your noble loving
