Dear Mrs. Stanford

What shall I
say! How express this
very painful sym-
pathy in which my
suffering heart goes
out to yours!

Dear heart I know
it all! This awful,
the bewildering shock -
the lasting sorrow
and loneliness!
and because I know
it all, I want to
take your hand in
mine and try to
comfort you.

[left page]
I pray that your soul may gain
the heights and stand serene in the
light of God.

"Blessed are the dead who die in"
"their Lord. That they may rest from"
"their labors and their works do"
"follow them."

Perhaps I am writing
too much and saying nothing that will
help you, but at least you will know that
I would soothe your pain if I could, and
that one whom you have comforted prays
for you. Truly your friend Ellen T. Windom

Mrs. William Windom. Brookline, Mass.
