at the age of fourteen
just the age of our baby
girl if she were living.
She was an invalid for
seven months with diabetes
& such a suffer she was. I
thought it would kill me to see
her suffer. My friend I
hope I have not tired or
worried you with this
letter. I hope you will
see proper to aid me
at this time of great distress.

Dear Madam,

I have just red in one
of the late magazines a
friend lent me of your
great wealth & of your
generosity. I thought I
would write to you in my
great distress. We just
burried [sic] my mother three
weeks ago, the third one
of our family to die in
sixteen months. I had
only three children two
girls & a boy. God in his
wisdom took both of my
girls in eleven months they
