We wish you a Happy New Year.

Woodland, Cal. Sept 7, 1893

Mrs. Stanford. Palo Alto, Cal. Dear Madam:

Please pardon me for addressing you in regard to the matter below stated.

I have thought it likely that you might add a shorthand and typewriting department to your University and as I am an experienced reporter and teacher, I ask you if you will please give this matter your attention.

It would be quite a favor if you would give me an opportunity to get the position as principal of the department.

Yours Respectfully, Effie C. Watkins

P.S. If you do not wish my services in your University, I should be glad to engage as your stenographer. I can furnish the best of reference if desired.
