threat is that if I do not retire,
every friend I have in the
legislature will be hunted down.
The vindictiveness of Mr Herrin
is apparent throughout.

My friends who know the
real testimony as it is brought
out, understand that neither
corruption nor wrong-doing can
be laid at my door; but I fear
that the merciless press with
their unwarranted distortions
and their false but startling
headlines may affect the judg-
ment of those who take them
as honest and who have no
familiarity with the facts as
they exist.

Of course I shall not yield
until defeated
