influence are accused by my
friends of making all the
trouble which I am experiencing,
both as to my candidacy and
as to the disgrace they are
endeavoring to heap upon my
name. They have proved only

able method to help elect a
republican legislature, and
nothing more; but they seek
to have it appear that I
have attempted bribery. This
they cannot do without re-
sorting to perjured testimony.
