My dear Mrs Stanford,

In vainly looking about
for some hope, in our pre-
sent trouble and distress, I
venture to write and ask you,
if you think it possible
that Mr Stanford could give
Colonel Grant a position or
place in some railroad,
or if he could recommend
him to Mr Huntington
