will have constructed eight
large additional buildings.

It will soon be a year
since I left home, and,
being away from the scene
of action, I have had more
time to consider and think
over plans for the future.
On the 21st of June Mr.
Stanford will have been gone
from earth-life eight years,
and in that time I have
had a great deal of ex-
perience in the affairs of the
University, and I have con-
cluded to limit the number
of students, for I find, on the
part of many connected with the
Institution, an ambition to
increase the number of stu-
dents - as they express it "to
ten thousand" in the future.
This I think is a great mistake.

to be made, of the very finest
marble, an altar 21 ft. long, to
be most beautifully carved.
The subject on the front is to
be a copy of the famous pic-
ture by Ciccere, called the
"Entombment". It contains the
figures of Mary, the beloved
Mother, Mary the Sister of
Martha and Mary the Magdalene,
at the head, and the body of
our Saviour being carried by
three of His Deciples [sic - disciples]. It is the
most beautiful thing I ever
saw. They are also executing
the altar rail. The spandrils [sic - spandrels]
in the arches supporting the
steeple of the church, (which is
168 ft high) are each to be dec-
rated with female figures of
angels in mosaics on a gold
