By the officers of the SHELTERING ARMS SOCIETY,

San Jose, California, March 20, 1905.

RESOLVED, That JANE LATHROP STANFORD in her lifetime by
many acts of wisdom, rare executive talents and broad mind
furnished to the world an ideal never before reached in public
life by any woman in her sphere.

In her trying position during the dark hours of the
struggle which constituted her life-work she displayed an
exalted character and singleness of purpose to do for her
kind all that could be done to make better the lives of all
that came within the scope of her immense benefactions.

RESOLVED, That we give public expression to our grief
in her demise as of one who symbolized all that was noble in
womanhood and bequeathed to us such an example of the virtues
of Faith, Hope and Charity as will leave to posterity a frag-
rant and imperishable memory.

RESOLVED, That copy of these resolutions be sent to
Charles G. Lathrop, to the Press and be spread upon the
minutes.

Mrs. Mitchell Phillips,
Mrs. D. D. Brooks,
Mrs W. L. Woodrow,
Committee.
