Mr. Charles G. Lathrop,

Stanford University California

My dear Mr. Lathrop

I am profoundly shocked to hear
of your sister's sudden passing away. It is
indeed hard that one who has labored with
such steadfastness and loftly ideal should not
be spared a few years at least to enjoy the results
of their labor. We are all of us losers in her
taking away. Seldom indeed has there been a
more glorious exhibition of courage, loyalty and
devotion than shown by Jane Lathrop Stanford
in the upholding of that which was dearest
to her heart.

Will you and Mrs. Lathrop kindly accept
the deep sympathy of Mrs. Lenox and myself
in the sorrow that has befallen you.

Very truly yours

Lionel R. Lenox
