Director Nathan van Patten,

University Libraries,

Stanford University.

Dear Director van Patten:

Mr. Edward Ellsworth Morgan, who achieved fame as a track "star" while he was here as a student in 1897 and 1898, has sent to me the enclosed invitation which he received from Mrs. Leland Stanford to "dine with her and the resident graduates of the Leland Stanford Junior University on Tuesday, January 28th," 1900, at the Hotel Madison in New York City. I attach Mr. Morgan's letter to me of May 15, 1939, in which he describes this event.

I am sending these over to be added to the Stanford Collection in the University Libraries.

Sincerely yours,

Dear Mrs Stanford:

Mr. Hazzard has just telephoned me that you sent an invitation in his care to dine with you this evening at your hotel. I was not in when Mr. Hazzard first called for me hence the tardiness of this. I hope you will pardon my late acceptance. I am one of your own loyal boys and it will give me great pleasure to see you again.

Very sincerely
