Hon Leland Stanford USS. [etc?] Dear Sir: Herewith please find specimen of a new Manzanita, discovered by me the present season, which with your permission I propose to dedicate to the memory of your son Leland Stanford Jr. in a paper to be read at the next meeting of the California Academy of Science (June 20th) vig: Arctostaphylos Stanfordiana, [Parry?] Since your return from Washington I have been very busy availing myself of your kind assistance in the way of R.R. transportation, with quite satisfactory results. As there are several matters connected with my recent explorations that may be of interest to you, if agreeable I would ask the favor of calling upon you at such time and place as may best suit your convenience.
