Untitled Page 1

Sacramento May 4th 1860

Dear Father & Mother

Your letter of the 4th
April last came to hand by the last
steamer mail. I was glad to hear
that you were all well. I had
hoped our affairs here would be
in such condition that I could
make you a visit this Spring
and attend the Republican
Convention. But such is not the
case. It would not have been
prudent for me to leave. My
businss is in good comfortable
condition but I have to aid the
San Francisco house as mutch [sic] as
possible. The boys have nearly $10,000
from me every steamer above what
is necessary to pay my own
Bills. I could make this
Store do mutch [sic] better had I not to use
funds for the aid of the Boys.
Every dollar I can spare from this
business goes to aid them.
