Dear Father

Agreeable to your request I improve the opportunity which offers of sending you a few lines informing you of the safe arrival her of myself & Dewitt. And also of a few other things which probably you will wish to know. We pay for our board 12 shillings, and for our bed two more. The studies which Dewitt persues are Grammar Arithmetic and Chemistry. Those which I persue are Grammar Arithmetick Geometry and Algebra. Dewitt likes his place and seems satisfied. I wish that you would cause to be sent 6 or 7 News Papers. I went them to keep the dust from our clothes. Give my respects to enquiring friends yours with respect,

Leland Stanford,

Josiah Stanford,

NB. Dewitt presents his best respects also.
