Mark Hopkins,
I have just come from Bank of California, Wills & Ralston both request we shall hold back drafts as long as possible.
They are doing all they can to carry and help out those that must have aid. Ralston says that all the other Banks are closer drawn down than theirs, that he had to let Tallent have 50,000 this morning and that it is almost impossible to carry the wheat craop, and much other of similar import. at the request of Wills & Ralston I write you this letter.
I told them I would write but could not say how long we could wait but we would do the best possible.
The Navigation Co will have a talk among themselves and let us know tomorrow what they will do about freight.
Yours truly
Leland Stanford
