Dear Mother and Daddy,

It was so nice to hear from you that the dinner with the Carpenters turned out so well. I should have thought to warn you about their bridge playing. I have heard it was very accomplished. I have determined to avoid ever having to play with them. I told Jack that you had seen them, and he seemed so very happy that you were getting to know each other.

There is going to be a big dance in the city tonight at the Fairmont hotel. It is just for all the girls houses on the row - so every I know will probably be there. Every one in the house is going and it has been a mad house all afternoon getting ready for it. I have decided to attempt

wearing my green dress again, because I do think it is so adorable, and Jack certainly won't be able to complain about its being too bright because Illie is wearing a bright fushia satin dress. Nancy Naylor is wearing a bright kelly green satin dress, and Kay is wearing a bright chartruse fill dress - so I will practically look as if I am in morning.

Last night I spent a very unexciting evening. I stayed home while Jack went to the basketball game and wrote a paper. Then he came by and took me to the drive-in for a sandwich - and I was in bed at eleven o'clock on Friday night! It did just about kill me. However, the night before I did have a very delightful time

playing bridge with a young couple who live in Palo Alto. Bob and Val Brooks - they were the couple that gave the party that I wrote you about before Christmas.

Yesterday I was going to play golf with Kay, but I came home from the library about three and found that we had no clubs and no ride to the golf course. So I had to go back to the library and study. It was not distressing, but, I did get a lot of work done. You will be very happy to know that for my christainity class I have to read the New Testament enterily, and I have already read Matthew and Mark. Evidentally the course is entirely about the New Testament. I was also called on in Business Law the other day, and after a

somewhat hesitating start. I finally made a few correct statements. It made me very happy, since he had called on several people before me who couldn't answer the questions at all.

I am glad the you like the chocolate egg idea. I think it is quite tremendous. I don't think it would be too bad handing them out at the door is they were in one of those little candy papers. However, there still might be a better way, but I do think we should do something with the eggs. I got a letter - six pages - from Shirley about how I could announce the date of her wedding and my engagement at the same time. I just didn't go for the idea at all, in the first place people don't make

a point of announcing their wedding date if they havn't done it at the time of their engagement, and if she did do it with me it would just look as if she were announcing her engagement all over again. However, she seems to want to so badly. I do think we should do it someway. Often when parties are given for engaged girls, they have little white napkins printed in silver with the names of the engaged couple. I thought that perhaps that might be done and then their date underneath it. Then of course mine announcement would be made entirely separate. I don't know whether she has discussed this small situation with you - but I know she wants something done
