Dear Mother and Daddy,

I just got back from the best music lesson ever - Dr. Popper said it was himself. He said He was sure I must have kissed off the boy friends for a week to accomplish as much as I did. And indeed I felt a little proud myself. I just wish that he could say that every time I went. I really have never had a bad lesson from him like I used to all the time from Mrs. Belenky, but some have been better than others. I think the reason is that Dr. Popper makes it so much more interesting. He doesn't make you spend hours on scales and exercises, but spends the entire time on pieces that you would like to play, of course he makes you do them very thoroughly, but it certainly worth it when you get through.

I got my history test back last Tuesday and found that I got a B on it, which made me very pleased since Professor Bailey is suppose to be rather hard. I also found out that I got twenty-rive out of thirty instead of twenty-five out of thirty-five in my Law test; so that makes it even better than before. I really don't know what grade it is, but I'm sure it must be a C anyway. Those are the only tests that I have had so far, but I'll probably have an onslought of them all at once.

Last Monday there was a great deal of excitement in the house because one of the girls announced her engagement. The box of candy came during dinner of course, and I was sitting in the proper chair to answer the door; so I got to bring the box in. I have had to do it several times, but this was the first time I have ever done anything like that without making a horrible faux pas. There was a party afterwards at a girls house, Anne Bubb, in Palo Alto. The girl was Janet Spear and the boy was a boy name George Taubman, who lives in Long Beach. She has the most beautiful ring I have nearly ever seen. The diamond is extremely large with two good-sized diamonds on either size. The big one

is cut with lots of facets so that it sparkles a great deal.

Last Tuesday I spent the afternoon doing my washing and practicing, and then at night I washed my hair and studied. Art called while I was washing my hair and wanted me to go to the Cellar later on, but I didn't think I'd better take the time; so I said no. Yesterday I did just about the same thing except that I did see Art for a while last night. My hands are so red now from all my domestic labors that I are really ashamed to show them above the table. I haven't seen too much of Jack this week except for a while on Monday, but he has been having a lot of tests; so that is the reason I think. Anyway I am going to the Symphony with him tonight and I also have a date with him on Saturday night. I'm really extremely flattered that I have gotten all this attention form those two boys. It is a very unusual situation, because it is very unusual for two boys who are good friends to keep dating the same girl continuously; usually one will drop out of the picture when he sees that the other is fairly interested. One of them should have stopped long before now. Everyone thinks it is very strange, and they keep asking me how I can keep both of them, but I just say that I don't do anything, but just sit and wait while they do it all... anyway it's fun while it lasts.

The little desk chair sounds just adorable, I have wanted one for a long time. Only if it isn't too late couldn't it have either blue or pink apholstry - we don't have anything gold in our room and I'm afraid it might look out of place.

I must stop and study now.

Love to all,

Mary
