Dear Mother and Daddy,

As usual once again I had a wonderful week-end. I really spent most of it giong out with Art - that is both Friday and Saturday nights - then I had dinner with him on Sunday. Three easy ways to get a boy disinterested. On Friday night we went with Ruth and Buck Brownson to a Zate party at a place called Adobe Creek Lodge, which is located in Los Altos. It is a very pretty country club sort of place, only quite small. It used to be a private estate, but now they rent the play house and swimming pool and other facilities out for parties. It is done in a sort of English style, and the grounds are beautifully kept up. It was an awful lot of fun because so many people that I knew were there. Dilys Jones and Eve Reitz were both there with boys who were very good friends of Art's - Lloyd Merriman and Ted Nell. Also this girl named Jane Eikelman was there. She is going to be my roommate next quarter. She is a last quarter senior, and all last quarter seniors can room with whomever they want, and she asked me if I would room with her. I was very flattered that she would want me to be her roommate. She is awfully nice and extremely pretty.

I studied and did my washing all day long. That night I went to a Phi Psi party that was given at the fraternity house here on campus. It was a hobo party, and of course everyone looked perfectly awful, but I think everyone just loved looking that way. I wore my gray peddle pushers with a blue denim sailor's top. It wasn't too appropriate, but at lease no one else was dressed like that. We went again with Ruth and Buck. The whole campus practically turned out for this one too. There was also a formal dance that night but no one seemed to be interested in going, particularly the boys who wanted to blacken up their faces - neither Art nor Buck did, but lots of them were. The boys kept teasing up about coming out in our best formals; so we did. I

appeared in the blue formal that Margie gave me and Ruth wore a light green one. We fixed ourselves up to look just hysterical, and the boys thought it was pretty funny, in fact our little joke sort of backfired on us - the boys tried to get us to go like that, and as we bodly walked out of the door, the girls locked the door behind us so that we couldn't possibly get back in. We went around to the front, however, and rushed upstairs and came down in a different outfit.

Sunday was a very big day too. It was the morning of senior breakfast. All the juniors have to get up and serve breakfast to everyone else in the living room, and then they always give a skit about the seniors. This time the skit turned out to be quite and an elaborate one in three scenes, one taking place in heaven before the girls were born, the second at school, and the third in the insane aslym, where they all finally ended up. Then the seniors gave their skit and had a class will and presented their present to the house. After that I rushed and got ready to go to church. I decided that I just couldn't possibly miss it, especially since it was the Founder's Day service. After I came back I just stayed dressed and studied until about one-thirty at which time I went up to San Francisco to this shower for Jackie. It turned out to be an engagement announcement at the same time for Sue Riordan. She looked so cute that I wished you could have seen her. She had on the most adoreable dress that I have ever seen. Her mother had made it for her. She is just about Margie's size only maybe a little thinner. The dress was navy blue silk - it had a high draped neck that is like the neckline of my grey dress and cap sleeves. It was plain in front and in back it had a little bussel made of three rows of ruffels made of white organdie eyelet. After the excitement of the announcement was over, Jackie opened all of her presents. She got some lovely things, and what was even more unusual they all matched. The only funny thing was that she didn't get any soap. I think that she liked my

little present just as well or better than any. After that we ate, and she had a great big, huge Blum's cake. It was without doubt one of the most delicious cakes I have ever eaten. It was white with about four or five layers and between everyone both chocklate and whipped cream, and then a huge white froasting. It had huge light yellow roses and silver leaves on the top and the names of Jackie and Ric on the top. The whole afternoon was just lovely - it was sort of a dreary day and there was a wonderful fire in the fireplace. After that Buck and Art picked Ruth and me up and took us to dinner in San Francisco, and then brought us right home. Of course we had just an hysterical time. When I got home I studied some more and then went to bed.

I had a very pleasant surpise last Satuday. This boy came up to me and told me I had gotten a terrific grade on my last test. He is the roommate of the boy who corrects the papes for our class, and he said that he had corrected some of them. I guess he knew what he was talking about, anyway I certainly hope so.

I'm very sorry that I didn't tell you who went skiing with me. Naturally I certainly didn't think that you would think that I just went up with Jack. There were quite a few other people up there. I went with Carol and Ruth and a darling girl named Peggy West. Jack drove us up and back along with a boy named Jerry Sieck. The four of us had an hysterical time, but I really felt a little sorry for the two boys having to put up with the four of us for the entire time. Mary Stafford, Molly Shaw, Helene West, and Jeanne Waters were also up there; so you can be sure we didn't lack company. As far as plans for driving down go I am driving down with Kay, Jack, and Bud.

It is awfully nice of you and Margie to take

the time to go and hunt up a dress for me. Of course I would just adore it, but it really isn't necessary, for I can always wear my black dress. If you do, don't try and get one to go with the blue hat, for if I'm going to have the navy blue file that will be enough to go with the hat. I will need something to go with the fuschia coat, and navy blue wouldn't exactly go seeing that there is black involved in the coat. What I would really like and what would be the most practical would be a black or white dress with a fuschia print to go with the coat. I don't think it would work very well to get everything to match the hat and nothing to match the coat. If it is too much trouble please don't worry about it, but it was awfully nice of you to want to do it, and I certaily appreciate it.

Love to all,

Mary
