Dear Mother and Daddy,

I just finished another accounting problem and I really feel as if it were a work of art. I worked on it all Saturday morning and part of Saturday afternoon, part of this afternoon and part of tonight. This one is about four pages long, but it is rather discouraging in that it proved that the other problem I did was wrong.

We had a lab period Friday afternoon from one to three in which we worked a problem together in class. The instructor kept calling on people to fill in the statements. Of course he would call on me just at the time I was most confused but I finally did manage to get some kind of an approximately correct answer out. All I have to do now is spend tomorrow afternoon doing another problem whichis due on Tuesday. I really don't mind accounting, in fact it is sort of fun if it

only wouldn't take so much time.

Mary Ellen asked me over for breakfast this morning and then we went to church. It seems that she is still very much interested in this boy at Cal Tech. This afternoon I worked on my problem until about four and then Jack came over. We went out to a golf driving range and shot some balls; you can just imagine how well I did. My balls all went about two feet and the turf I dug up with it about fifty. I was slightly embarrassed. Jack then came over and had supper. Girls are always having boys over for supper on Sunday night, and we have it buffet style, so it is lots of fun. However Mrs. Reynolds didn't like it because I had asked him to come so late, so she made me clean up the living room for the guests. We had a small party with Eve and the boy she is engaged to, and [Willie?] and her date Martin Anderson.

Yesterday afternoon we went to the game we had here with Santa Clara. It was extremely disappointing and everyone is just completely discouraged about our teams. They just don't seem to have any drive or spirit, or anything. We didn't win the game yesterday, and after having lost the game with Idao, there isn't much hope for us. I dread to think of playing S.C. or UCLA.

Last night we went to a little place called the Old Mill. All the old crowd was there and it was loads of fun. Ruth, [Dilys?], [Willie?], Sally Teachout and my old roommate Jane Eiekelman who is now living in San Francisco were there, and a lot of other people too that we always see at parties. Practically all of the Delts were there. All the same people were there that were at the Officers Club last week, except that we schottisched and polkaed, and

played a game of table shuffle board which we hadn't done before. It wasn't a very dressed up party either, and I finally got to wear my white sweater. Everyone was crazy about it. I thought I had better wear it out with Jack before he began to wonder what had become of it.

Friday night I also saw Jack, and we went with this Al [Marris?] and a girl named Mary Black who is a darling girl from Washington. We didn't do much of anything, but just fooled around. There were some "open houses" on the row.

I think I had better go to bed now or I shall never be able to make it to my eight o'clock class in the morning.

Love to all, Mary
