Dear Mother and Daddy,

Although I literally live in a daze up here, I have not been doing too awfully in my school work. I got a B in my French test, a B- in my [Biology?] test, I am doing above the class average work in English, but in history, that is a different story, we've had two tests, on both of which I got a C and we're having a very important one on Wednesday, for once, in my life I am really petrified over a history test.

Yesterday I went with my roommate, Marilyn [Dey?] to her home which is about five miles from here. It is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. It was not too big but was situated on the top of a hill overlooking the whole beautiful country.

side. It has a large terraced garden all around the house and some peach and apricot orchards. It is certainly the kind of a place I wish that you could live for a while, the sun would just bake all the tiredness out of your bones. It is very warm, but has a very cool breeze. I certainly had a novel experience there. This other girl, Leni [Nill?], and I decided to lay out in the sun and bake. After we were real hot and it was almost time to go, we decided it would be nice to have a shower. Marilyn escorted us to her fathers shower, which is really an institution, the shower sprays from the sides as well as all over the top of the little shower room. Well, I, smart as ever, got the hot water turned on and couldn't get it turned off. I steamed up the whole house before Leni could get it cut off. In the process I got my hair soaking wet. It was Marilyn's birthday also, yesterday,

and she has four boxes of candy and two cakes and since she is already quite fat, she won't eat it, too bad. I think its too bad to see it go to waste. One of the cakes was given her by some boys that she had known for a long time and they had had written on it "Daisy (her nickname) Queen of Roble." It was just darling; I had the job of keeping her in her room until the cake arrived, only I almost gummed up the whole thing, because they gave it to her at a debate instead. The cake tasted wonderful too.

This afternoon I had a most wonderful date. I went to a wonderful picnic with a most wonderful boy. It was in the mountains near here and is quite similar to [Idylwild?] only prettier. We hiked (if you can call it that) over the mountain, played volleyball, which I afterwards

decided that the best advantage I could be to the game was to [duck?], ate hot dogs, and sang songs. This picnic certainly made me change my mind about the older boys, for theses boys - they are all in the Navy - were the nicest bunch you could ever want to meet. Sally Sutch and I went double date, and I had one of the nicest dates I've ever had.

The electric cycle here is 50, but I would like you to see about getting me one fro this one looses about half an hour every night, which is very inconvenient in the morning. The bike has not arrived, but it usually takes about two weeks to get it delivered to Roble. Please don't forget I need the formals by the 19th and that I need some more sheets.

Love to all, Mary
