Dear Mother and Daddy,

I just finished my French final and I think that I did all right in it. It certainly was a job preparing for it; I practically had to memorize translations to twelve stories and two-thirds of a play. If I did do well I'll get a B anyway, which makes me very happy since I don't think I did too well on my Physical Science final. I have my last and hardest final on Wednesday - that's in Civ.

The lamp came and I am certainly pleased with it. The red on the lamp shade wasn't exactly the right color, but that perfectly all right because I have a very brilliant idea for making a covering for the shade and a dresser scarf to match. I am very enthusiastic about fixing up my room for next fall and I have all kinds of ideas.

I saw Jim Kessler again yesterday, he said to say hello to mother; he had a friend with him and they came over to talk to me for a while. Jim was showing his friend all around Stanford and wanted to show him the "Freshman" as well. I didn't know quite how to take that. He came back a little later saying that that they had just gotten an invitation and a car and would I go swimming with them. I didn't know whether I should or not because of my final today but the lady at the desk who was a friend of his insisted that I should so I did; I'm glad I went now since my final turned out as well as it ever would. We went to this boy's house who has a lovely pool and grounds and I met a lot of Julius Bucklers's crowd. I haven't quite decided what I think about them, except that they seem a little too sophisticated for me.

I can hardly wait to see you on Thursday, but it certainly seems a long time off to me. Please meet me at the Glendale station since that is where Sally is getting off too. Love to all and I'll see you soon.

Mary

Dear Mother,

All last year when you were buying some cologne I tried to get you to buy some of this, but you never would; so now I am going to force some upon you. Don't let Margie get a hold of it because she will probably use it all up and this is for you. If she likes it, I'll get her some at an appropriate time.

Happy birthday and all my love, Mary.
