Dear Mother and Daddy,

Well, Stanford is just the same, except there a few hundred more hundred more people here. The train kids coming up was fun, since there were a lot of Stanford people on the train and naturally, we didn't stay in our seats much of the time. The people in the train, I'm afraid, got rather tired of seeing us totter (high heels on a moving train ain't very secure) down the aisles. Some of the old girls met us at the station with a station wagon so we didn't have any trouble getting here. I arrived with everything safely and in tact which seems to have been quite a wonderful accomplishment.

One of the first things I did was to get my tests, except my Physical Science test and I wasn't in too big of a hurry to get it. In my few scribbled lines last night I told you that I got a B+ in Civ. This morning I found I got an A- in my French final, and my French teacher said it was a very nice test.

I am all registered and don't have anything to do until classes start tomorrow. Idecided to drop the art course, since I though I would have quite enough to do with my music lessons without it. Now I am just taking Western Civ., Physical Science, English, and Spanish.

When we said that we were going to have fun with the girls this fall we didn't know how true it was going to be. There are an awful lot of new girls and some returning old girls, and they are all

just as cute as they can be. The boys are very few and all very drippy looking and look rather pitiful next to all the cute girls. But they, we certainly can't be dissapointed about not having any dates. Bob Roartree and Jim [Whitely?] did come over to see Sally and me just before lunch and they are going to take us swimming this afternoon. I was certainly surprised to see them so soon, so I guess we'll be having a few dates. Of course I didn't bring a swim suit, but I've lost so much weight that I can wear one of Sally's. This will probably be my last date for the quarter, but I'm not very worried about it.

I've seen Mary Ellen and she is getting along fine. She said that she had a nice trip on the train and that she met Phyllis

Talmage; she hasn't seen Kay though. She didn't get a single room, but her room-mates seem very quiet and so I think she'll get along with them all right.

I am extremely pleased with my room. I haven't gotten it fixed up yet though, because last night I was much too sleepy to do anything but make my bed and crawl in it. The things that we bought haven't arrived yet and I am rather anxious to see what they look like in my room.

This morning I got a lovely blue leather frame with a gold border from [Ottilie?] and her picture looks very beautiful in it.

Please don't forget my ration book as I should have it by Wednesday. Also if you are able to find one, I'd like an extension for my lamp.

Love to all, Mary.
