Dear Mother and Daddy,

A very wonderful thing happened yesterday. I got my best grade that I've gotten in college and probably the best that I'm ever going to get. It was in English and that was the very class I dreaded most. Perhaps I can do something in there after all. It was on a [precise?] on how to write a good exposition, and it was extremely boring - it was all right just to read, but to spend any time on it, that was awful; consequently, I left it until the last minute to do and just dashed it off and handed it in without even proof reading it.
