Dear Mother and Daddy,

Well I just got back from having it out with Mrs. Belenky. I was literally shaking in my shoes, you know how she can scream at people. Today she screamed good and loud but I decided that that is a good sign; because then she thinks what you've done is worth her criticism. Anyway she said tha tthis was one of my better lessons. I was very pleased and very surprised at that.

In just a few minutes I have to go down stairs and have a big conference with Miss Clark, the house mother of Branner and several of the sponsors from the Freshman halls. This is a little frightening too. I'm certainly going to learn a lot from running this dance. I never realized that it would.

---- I just got back from the meeting, everything is going fine, I guess. We decided to have "The Land of Oz" as a theme for it. All I have to do now

is sit eternally at the phone getting my committee chairman. But its fun, and I love doing it.

I havn't joined the choir, although I'd love doing it, but I don't feel that I can. The reason is that it meets for two hours on Thursday night. I have classes all Thursday morning from 8 on and a lab. from one to four in the afternoon. Tests usually come on Friday and I have three classes on Friday. If I didn't keep Thursday night free, I would never have the time to study for Friday exams. Next quarter I won't have to have a lab, so that I can join it and still have time for it. As it is, I have a terrible time practicing my music lesson. The only hours I could get the piano were from 8-9 in the morning and from 5-6 at night. It's a little awkward, but I get it done somehow.

My Spanish is coming better, but my French is worse. I had to read a passage in French the other day, and I never had such

a terrifying time. The prof. said that I sounded as if I was trying to read Spanish. Other than that my French class is very nice, there are only about eight of us and we translate very cute French stories. Lately in Spanish I've been able to answer most of the profs. questions. I know though that I shall never make an A or even an A- in the class. The professor is so much harder, he has the same kind of a temperament as Mrs. Belenky.

My gymnastic class is wonderful. Yesterday I got to swing on the rings; hardly anyone had ever done it before, but I certainly felt right at home.

Gertie Keystone is having a little dinner party on Sunday night. Sally S., Kay, Ruth, and a girl named Cecil Harwick are going and all of us have dates with various Tyler boys which is a boy's hall where George lives; so I'm going with him. Every one knows everyone else very well, in fact maybe

too well, so we will all probably have a very gay time.

There isn't any other news, except that poor Sally [Teachout] is in bed with the chicken pox. We are all exposed to it, but most of us have already had it and no one else is in danger of getting.

There is one other thing, last night we had a very interesting Physical Science lab. We all watched the instructor pass a 1,000,000 volts of electricity through him. Nothing happened, although why I don't know. I almost tried it but I decided that I wanted to live a little longer.

Love to all, Mary
