Dear Mother,

I nearly jumped out of my shoes when I read your letter this morning telling me of your operation. I knew you were going to have it, but not so soon. I wished that you had told me when it was because I planned to knit some bed socks for you when you were in bed. The house president was going to help me. I'm glad that the operation wasn't any more painful than having your tonsils out, but I can't believe than, I know it must have been much worse. You only said that so I wouldn't think it hurt. I'm awfully glad though that it is all over. I hope that you get well soon, but not so soon that you won't get a nice long rest; it's about time that you got one. And don't you dare get up before you are entirely well. You never would let any of us and we were never ill with anything as serious as you are - so play fair.

The big thing around here are the elections for school

offices. Sally and Ruth and two of the Tyler boys sent around a petition to nominate me for secretary of the Freshman class. This morning when my name appeared in the campus newspaper, I had quite a shock to see my name among those nominated. I didn't realize that they had even put me up. I would certainly love to be elected though; however I doubt very seriously that I will be since there are so many other good girls running. The only thing I don't like is having to run against Mary Ellen but I really couldn't help it. It pleased me though that they thought enough of me to put me up. I felt very important this afternoon because I had to hand in a statement to the paper titling my qualifications; it only had to be fifty words and I was certainly thankful for that because I couldn't think of a thing to say. Tonight I have to go down to a Freshman rally and be introduced. Thank goodness I don't have to make a speech.

also been doing some high powered campaigning for one of the Tyler boys for President of the Freshman dance. His name is Willie Davies, and he is crazy about Sally [Switch]. Sally wrote a little campaign song for him and he nearly went mad. Every one has been singing the song for Willie, and every one is going crazy from having heard it so much, but it is getting good results. Tonight we are all going around to sing it to all the Freshman Halls.

The dance is coming wonderfully. I had another big meeting today and we discussed the whole thing. The theme is going to be the Land of Oz and the decorations are all going to be decorations from the Oz books. We are going to have a big painted Emerald city and a brick road leading to it with the Oz characters on it. Thank goodness though I'm not responsible for getting all the decorations done.

appreciative of it. She also said that the Jergin's lotion company asked her to be queen of the Jergin's Lotion Company. They wanted her to appear on their radio program and with their advertisements. Isn't that nice for her? I don't know whether she is going to do it or not.

All the girls in my corridor sent you their best wishes. Please get well soon. I'm thinking about it all the time.

All my love, Mary

P.S. The things did come and I was very glad to get them. I will certainly be glad to get my two skirts back. I've been running a little short of things to wear to classes. Take care of yourself.

Love again, Mary -
