Dear Mother and Daddy,

I just received the pedal pushers and they are just darling - I had been wanting some for quite a long time. Every one will be extremely jealous. They fit perfectly and I'll be very careful of them so as not to get them dirty easily. Thank you very much for sending them to me.

Finals are coming up soon and I dread them - If I work real hard I think I can get all B's, even in Spanish. My last Spanish test wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be and if I get B's on the next two tests I may possibly get a B in the course anyway I'm going to try awfully hard. That isn't too awfully good though especially since I promised my advisor I'd try and make Phi Beta Kappa grades - but I really don't care anything about Phi Beta Kappa; just so I keep a B average.

Last Friday night all the girls whose families weren't here had to go over to one of the men's dorms to eat dinner, and never in my life have I eaten such an awful dinner - or rather seen

such an awful dinner. I really couldn't eat it. I just went over there with Sally Teachout and then we went to a little dance at the men's dorm but that wasn't much fun either; after that we went to a pow-wow which was a program made up of skits done by the various living groups. There was a prize for the best skit, but Roble's skit was awful - The rest was good. I was in sort of a difficulty because Bob was sitting down in front of me and George in back and I didn't want either of them to see me dateless, but I finally walked out with George, and he brought me home. He's been so nice this week. I had to break a date with him for last Sat. night to go to the A.K.K. formal with Bob and I guess he was getting a little worried. The apex happened on Saturday night when I was leaving to go with Bob, George walked in the lobby and whistled at me as I walked out with Bob - He was also standing on the front steps when I got back - The formal was a wonderful dance. I wore my gray formal and it looked awfully nice when I left, but when I finally arrived at the A.K.K. house it was so wrinkled

from sitting in the car that I was embarrassed to be seen in it. For the first time I've been up here I got flowers. It's a Stanford custom, since the war not to send flowers, so this was really quite an event. They were red roses and looked awfully pretty on my dress. I also had to get blind dates, one with Sally Teachout and another with a girl named Ann Carter. Both of the dates worked out very well and the boys were very pleased, so it was a very nice evening.

Thank you again for the pedal pushers - I shall get a lot of good out of them.

Love to all, Mary -
