Dear Mother and Daddy,

Well after studying all Saturday morning for a Physical Science test at the convenient time of 1:00 on Saturday afternoon, we all went over to the Olymic day. It was the most fun I've had in a long time. Every one was in jeans and even all the little boy scouts from Palo Alto were there. Ruth, Sally, and I were selling food for a while and they all came to buy ice cream at the same time. What a mess! They had all kinds of races - bicycle races, Jack. race, greased-pig race, and naturally a Sadie Hawkins race - They also had a pie eating race for the girls. I didn't get to race in the tandem bike race because they decided to have only one couple from each class and the other Freshman girl arrived before I did since my Physical Science test made me late. I was awfully disappointed, it looked like loads of fun. On the way out, I ran into Clark Graves and a friend he had brought down with him from Vallejo. I found him a place to stay in one of the men's halls.

I asked this very nice and very friendly Freshman boy, Dave Saunders, if he would take care of them and he found them two beds in his hall. He and Clark got along just wonderfully and really struck up quite a friendship. I also got Clark and his friend dates for the dance that night. I think he had a very good time and I'm awfully glad.

The Sadie Hawkins dance was a big success. Teachie, Kay, Sally, and I all went up to Tyler hall to pick up the boys in Sally's car. It was really the funniest thing you've ever heard of. George made a perfect hick. He had on jeans with a rope around the waist a plaid shirt and an old frayed hat which he wore all evening. We all took the boys corsages. The one I made for George was made out of carrots and onions and radishes. I also attached a little poem. I think George sort of liked it and he pinned it to a rope that he had over his shoulder. He kept eating it all night so by the end of the evening there wasn't anything left but the onions. The boys kept mocking us all evening. They kept running up to each other and whispering in each others ears

that "there's something I simply must tell you," and when we asked them where they wanted to go to eat they said "it's entirely up to you," so we didn't go anyplace. We also saw the boys to the door - It was very complete.

Sunday was a very beautiful day and I just didn't feel like studying; so I thought it would be alright to play around one day before starting to study for finals. It's a good thing I picked Sunday - It has been foggy since. After church I went up to the boathouse with the girls and I got quite sunburned. Bob was up there too and he took me for a canoe ride. He didn't have on his army clothes and he really did look awfully cute much better than I ever expected. It was too cold to go in swimming, but we all caught frogs and raced them. They've sent Jim to Cal. for a medical examination but he came down later on Sunday and we all went out to dinner. We took Jim back to the station and then went home.

You asked me if I wanted to plan anything for over vacation. Well, Ruth is coming down to spend the vacation with Kay, and I'd like

to have them over or take them out or something. I'd just like to do something for her. What do you think.

I've just had a Spanish test and a Physical Science test. I got a B in Spanish - so I think the Spanish will be all right now, although I won't get an A which is rather disguisting to me since I got one last time. I also feel quite certain that my Physical Science test was better than usual. I think my subjects will all be all right if I do all right on the finals, so I'm not going to do another thing before I come home.

Love to all, Mary -
