Dear Mother and Daddy,

I certainly had a lovely week-end. It was so nice seeing Bobbie. I'm glad that he got to come up although I really would have liked to come home, especially because of Annette. Sally Sutch let us have the car and we rushed over to the airport at 12 and waited until about two when he arrived. He certainly looked handsome when he got off the airplane. Sally Teachout went with me - all of the other girls had lab - and we amused ourselves around the station. It was very interesting because there were delegates arriving for the peace conference and there were a lot of people taking pictures, a big reception committee, a guard of M.P.'s and a Navy band. It was all rather exciting. When Bobbie finally did arrive we immediately set out only to get a flat tire - Sally's car isn't in very good condition. Bobbie fixed it very neatly though and then we took him to get something to eat. When we got back everybody was ready there

to go on the picnic so we left as soon as we could. I hope Bobbie had a nice time, but he didn't know any one so I was afraid that he would feel rather how of it; but all the boys thought he was awfully nice and the girls all thought he was very cute. The picnic was exactly the best organized picnic I've ever been to, but it was fun. After that we all went to the drive in for some more dinner and then we went to a little dance. Bobbie and I had a very complicated arrangement for getting up in time for the plane, and we both had to get up at five thirty and phone several places. But everything went fine and we picked up Bobbie at seven o'clock. The girl whose room is across from mine took us in her car and stayed with us all day, because she really was the only way I could get home and I [wan't] to wait for Bobbie. It certainly was nice of her. I really don't know what time Bobbie left because by one thirty he couldn't make Janet wait any longer and he refused to let me stay and go home on the bus since it would have taken such

a long time. I made him promise to call me if he didn't catch the four o'clock plane, but you know he never would. I certainly hated for him not to be able to stay longer; it seemed such a shame for him to spend the whole day in the station, and I wanted to show him more of the campus, but I was so glad for him to have been able to come at all.

The only other thing of interest that has happened was that last Thursday night I went up to the Kappa house for dinner. The Kappas and the D.G.'s are the best houses here but I still like the D.G.'s much better. After I went to the Kappa house I went to the library to study and I met a D.G. there took Kay and me up the the D.G. house to get something to eat. We were sitting in one of the girl's rooms talking and during the conversation they started talking about how odd it was that this prominent senoir (I never thought Bob was particularly prominent) would be dating a Roble girl evidentally that is rather below the

senoirs - I got real red and I thought it was the funniest thing in the world and I kept laughing. They were all sort of red to when they found out that I was the girl. It was really awfully funny. I certainly do like the D.G. girls. Last night all five of us went up to the Theta house for dinner and the girls were all awfully nice and so cordial to us. I rather think I like them best next to the D.G.'s. I've never in my life seen such a group of beautiful girls. Every single one of them is outstanding.

Last Friday afternoon when I was waiting for daddy to call I made a little cotton skirt. I wouldn't have made it, but I saw the material in a shop in Palo Alto and I just had to buy it. It's red and white stripped chintz. I was really surprised that I could make it in such a short time especially without a machine. It will probably rip soon but when I get home I can sew it up again on the machine.

Love to all, Mary -
