Dear Mother and Daddy,

Another week has gone but, and I can't believe it. It seems that I have done nothing but study for tests. We had a huge Political Science test. I studdied very hard for it, but after all I don't think that I did too well. I talked to the girl yesterday who is a reader for the course and she had corrected the objective part of my test; she said that I had done better than the average. I still have the essay to worry about though; I'm sure I couldn't possibly have done too well because it concerned a quotation which I had never heard of before. I had a little German test too and I did quite well with that. Mrs. Belenky was also very pleased with my music lesson.

Last night we had a big rally and it was just wonderful; it started with a parade that went all over campus and picked up everyone on the way. The band was out and just millions of people and we all walked over to the basket ball pavillion and had a lot of Stanford yells and songs. The new football and basketball coaches spoke to us and told us about the programs. We're going to start having big games next year and basketball this year. There was also a little old man there who talked and led an old Stanford fight song. He used to be a Stanford all star athlete and he was still very, very vigorous. It certainly is wonderful going to a school that has so much school spirit.

After the rally I came home and started to study

very diligentally, but Bob came down to do something about his fraternity rushing, so I went out to have some thing to eat with him. I got more studying than usual done last night too, I don't understand it.

I just got back from Palo Alto - we're going to have a huge picnic tomorrow of a whole bunch of girls that we knew at Roble last year, but don't see very much any more. It's going to be loads of fun - we're going to roast wennies and play football. I just went in to get some of the food. I fear it's going to be quite a job to keep it until tomorrow - I'd better.

I think I had better go and practice now, or dear Mrs. Belenky won't appreciate my next lesson.

Love to all, Mary

P.S. I have sent the skirt home. I had a girl from the D.G. house pin it. She is a wonderful sewer and makes all of her own clothes. She even makes all her coats and suits; so she must know quite a bit about tailoring. She seemed to think it would be best to take the skirt up in the darts at the back since it wasn't too awfully much too big in the waist and it would be easier to fix. However, if you think it should be taken in at the sides; you can measure the amount pinned and take it in there. I hope you don't have to much trouble with it - it is just a divine suit. I'm sorry it had to cost so much, but I'm sure I'll get that much pleasure out of it; its such a lovely suit. Thank you
