Dear Mother and Daddy,

I certainly had a big week-end. I doubt that anything more could have happened. You remember my speaking about the picnic that was going to be sort of a get together for all the old Roble girls we used to know; well it turned out that the whole thing was done for Marit Parker to announce her engagement. I don't know whether you remember her or not, but she was one of the girls I had to my dinner at the Jonathan Club last spring. She is a tall, blond girl and sort of reminds you of Mrs. Bouton. It was a complete surprise to me although I had just finished asking her if she didn't expect to become engaged soon and she said yes bright Mary! There were three girls there that knew and I was sitting next to one of them eating. When we had just

about finished eating; she brought the box of candy in a paper sack and before she could take it out, I of course had to ask what's that? So she gave me the box and said open it, so I had to read the card and everyone got rather preturbed at me, but I really didn't know what was going on. Naturally every one got very excited, especially since she was the first girl any of us had known very well to announce her engagement - We left the picnic grounds and went to some little house where there was some more food and the girls from the Kappa house were all there. We all had a big time, and Marit brought the boy out to meet us. He was just wonderful, but I fear slightly embarassed. I was quite thrilled by the whole affair.

After we came home, Kay and Sally Teachout and I tripple dated. We went to dinner

and then to the Peacock Court in the Mark Hopkins Hotel which is very much like the Cocoa-nut Grove. They had a wonderful orchestra there that I wanted to hear, Carmen Cavillers; so I was very happy when the boys suggested going there. We stayed there for a while and then we went to the A.K.K. house where they were having a little party for the new med. class.

I certainly hope that you don't get the idea that I don't do any studying - I really do. This afternoon I practiced from 2:00 to 5:00 and I tried to do some more after dinner, but it proved a little difficult. I have also spent about three hours studying for a German quiz.

The only other bits of news are that Ruth is in the Rest Home because of a horrible case of poison oak, and that Kay got Bill's med. school pin last Friday night. It's just like mine.

Love to all, Mary -
