Dear Mother and Daddy,

Well my suspicions about not getting in the D.G. house were right. It was really just too much to hope for. The D.G.'s stretched their house two more spaces when they thought we were getting in. They heard that two Redwoods girls were next in line and they thought it was us because they didn't know anymore in here that were drawing for their house. Shirley Pititt, the president of the D.G. house went down to the Dean's to see if they could have two more girls in their house thinking they would get us. They were allowed two more vacancies, but they didn't go to us. Shirley's face fell a mile when I told her that

it wasn't us. Of course I'm awfully disappointed, but I think we can all, including Ruth and Jane can get in it at the end of next quarter, anyway we have to move out of here. It's awfully nice though to know that the D.G.'s want us and have done so much to try and get us in. I hope after all this I do get in sometime, in the meanwhile all the D.G.'s are moving out. oh dear!

I've been going to the library every night this week, hoping to get a lot of work done and I think that I have.

Bob came just as I was writing this so I didn't have time to finish this, and yesterday I was so busy that I didn't have time to. I went to classes from eight to eleven and

practiced from eleven to twelve thirty and then went to my music lesson. I got back about three and rushed to get ready to go to a linen shower for Marit. It was at a tea room and we all had tea and delicious little cakes. Marit opened all her presents, most of them were hand towels. I gave her two little doilies; it was all I could find. She opened them last; it means something when you'er present is opened last, but I don't know quite what. When we came back we, Ruth, Sally, and I, went to eat with Mary Ellen. It was so very nice of her and had a wonderful time to say nothing of the delicious dinner; so different from what I'm used to. We went to the D.G. house afterwards

and spent all evening talking with the president and others about the housing situation. Every one is very unhappy about the whole situation, and it really would have been much better if they had just kept the sororities. If we don't get into the D.G. house at the end of next quarter, I really just don't know what we'll do. We've got an answer for every question that might arise, that would prevent us from getting in. This whole situation just doesn't seem fair at all, because the system for placing girls in houses doesn't take the personalities or the congeniality of the girls living together at all. I still have high hopes of something working out at the end of next quarter. I'll be at a blank wall if it doesn't. All

Sally and Ruth and I have been doing practically is rehersing speeches to Miss Doyle in case something happens.

It was awfully nice of you to mention about Ruth's coming down, because I really think she wanted to, but was afraid she would be interfering with something. I'm not quite sure, but I think she will probably be down for a few days after Christmas, just before we were all going to Yosemite. I hope it's all right for me to go, because I've had to go ahead and make reservations. Sally, Ruth, and I have them for the 2ed to the 7th of January. I wouldn't be a bit surprised either if Bob came down at Christmas either. poor mother!
