Dear Mother and Daddy,

I am now sitting in a little alcove in the Education Library back of the book stacks. Nothing could be more solitary and conducive to study. I have been spending my last few days here studying, hoping it will help some. I have just finished two tests today. Paleontology and German, neither of which I fear I did too well. Its excusable in Paleontology, but in German ick versteke is nicht! I spent an hour on each lesson, when through the vocabulary three time from German to English and three from English to German, memorized all the conjugstions of the irregular verbs, and the list of prepositions that went with each case. I spent all day

Monday, and from one to three thirty today. What I missed were grammar points, its so hard to construct a German sentence. Kay probably didn't miss a thing and she didn't study nearly as long as I did; as far as I can see I didn't leave a thing that should be studied. Kay hasn't missed a single thing in all her German quiszes since the mid-term and three have been at least six. In Paleontology the only thing that I didn't do too well was that we were given trays of fossils that we had to indenify. I know I missed three because I discussed them with the Professor afterwards and we only had ten. I got Nebiophyllum and Ityllophilopsier mixed up. It took me about a month to learn the names, much less what they were. I must say though, on top

of all, my Paleontology final was really more fun than any I've ever had. It was sort of fun to figure out what all these little things were. Unfortunately I spent six hours studying things that wern't even asked. I am now preparing to study Political Science which I have tomorrow morning. On top of all this I have food poisoning. Oh me, I wish I were home!

I guess I haven't told you about Saturday night. Bob took me to San Francisco to hear the symphony. It was really just beautiful. I wish you could have heard it. Unfortunately I didn't keep my mind on it the whole time, for some reason I kept thinking about all my old dolls - wasn't that silly. It seemsthe the symphony is were all the med. students meet, at least there were certainly millons of them there. After the symphony every

one went to the A. C. C. house where there was a dance going on. They always have them after symphonies. One of the boys who is supposed to play just wonderfully played some pieces and he played the Fice Dance. I have never heard it played so horribly in all my life. I'm sure de Falla would have turned over in his grave if he heard it. It was really very nice to hear some one who is such a wonderful pianist play something so badly that even I could have done better. I will pat me on the back. (of course I didn't express my opinions to anyone but Bob and he asked me, but I had to be honest)

Sally and I are going to room together next quarter and Ruth and Jane. It will be very nice and the rooms are right next to each other. Sally and I have big plans for fixing up the room.

I must stop now because I didn't bring anymore paper with me to the Library.

Love to all,

Mary
