Dear Mother & Daddy,

Eileen is thriving beautifully. We're having quite a time convincing everyone that just because she is our first, we're not tossing up our hands in helpless dismay. Thanks to all those people who paid me to sit with their 2 mo. to 12 yr. old babies, I feel that basic training has left me well prepared. Jim has had a liberal hand in raising his nieces & nephews, so we are well satisfied & not the least bit anxious about her.

My upper deck resembles one of those exaggerated calendars found in places of all-male employment. Eileen is well

2 supplied with milk, & thanks to her excellent pump, she is getting fatter & nosier every day. The pediatrician said "Don't worry, Mrs. Standley, you are a success."

I will shoot those last few people you mentioned their thank-you notes as soon as possible. Sister Mary Justin sent her a lovely little gold Miraculous Medal.

I thought that blue sweater was the one I wore, that the big Mama doll wore for so many years. Thank you for knitting this one up special. She should be big enough to wear it very soon. Those sleep-sacks are pretty as well as practical & she looks especially pretty in the one with the pink roses, for no reason I can define, since she is pretty all the time, & can make wonderfully funny faces. The blue blanket is the greatest, as far as that material goes. It's

so light & warm. I have a smaller one in yellow that we're using on her right now. She sleeps in an infant crib. It's really too warm for much more than two receiving blankets most of the time. We're putting the standard size crib blankets away until she is ready for a 6 yr. crib.

The only snapshots we've taken of her so far were when we brought her home. This week, I'll get the word from the doctor on flash pictures. Also we have a large florescent light in the garage & tons of extra sensitive Tri-X film. The workbench will make such a lovely backdrop. I guess we'll do some

4 draping. When she's a little older, I have a line on the best babyphotography outfit around here, one that comes to your home. This type of picture always turns out better, since the child is at ease in familiar surroundings. I have arrived at this conclusion by a careful house-to-house survey while Avon-ing.

We are currently engaged in the process of "gettng on a schedule," through the process of "feed whenever hungry." She's doing pretty well, & for the last two nights, she's gone through the entire 2 or 3 A.M. deal without a squack. She wakes me by smacking her lips. This will be helpful in getting Jim to work in a rested condition. Fortunately, I am a light sleeper, & don't require much sleep anyway, though I have been learning to take naps, for my sore tail. Things will settle down pretty soon.

Love, Marcia
